The Hunger Games Film

The first film in the Trilogy, The Hunger Games was released in cinema’s in the UK and US on the 23/03/12.

The date, in the US, is written as 03/23/12. This has sparked the theory that the release date was planned at there are 3 books, 23 deaths in the arena and 12 districts taking part.
The argument against this is that only 22 deaths were registered as Katniss and Peeta were joint winners and that the release date varied depending on which country you were living in. It was released in France on March 21st for example.

THG has a running time of 142 minutes and is the third-highest grossing film on its opening weekend after ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ (1st) and ‘The Dark Knight’ (2nd). It is the biggest grossing film that is a non-sequel.

It was distributed by Lionsgate Studios and directed by Gary Ross.
The screenplay was written by Gary Ross, Suzanne Collins and Billy Ray. The fact that Suzanne Collins, the original author, co-wrote the screenplay is seen as a key factor in the films success.
